THIS IS A SPECIAL SECTION DEVOTED EXCLUSIVELY TO
PERFROMANCE VW/Audi engines.

Here are photographs of Volkswagen & Audi Centre's VW Beetle RSi - VW Cup car fitted with the Ecotek CB-26P. Driven and run by Dave Turner - he hasn't won yet but it's so new that it'll take some time to get it fully set up and for him to get used to it. The venues are as follows: May - Silverstone; June  -  Donnington Park; July - Brands Hatch; July  - Croft and September - Snetterton.

The shows and other events the Beetle will be appearing at consist of VW & Audi shows, and the Non-championship Donington event listed above is a partnership meeting with the German Touring Cars (DTM) and historic Formula 1s.

The device is gradually catching on in racing circles - Mike Butler at Gatwick Alfa has been using them for a while on his V6 engines and there are quite a few in the Ford Puma races.

Dave will also be taking the racing Beetle to the Rally Supercar Day at Castle Combe circuit in July. Another large Volkswagen/Seat/Skoda & Audi show includes GTi International at Wroughton air field, near Swindon in May.

If you want any info - Dave Turner is your man - he supplies and fits Ecotek's near Stroud in Gloucestershire - you can contact him via our Suppliers page or by phoning: The Volkswagen & Audi Centre (01453) 822855 / 07973194285

Andy Entwistle contacted us about his modified manifold for the VR6 and has now built a special Type R Manifold complete with twin Ecotek's - 211 BHP with 195 lbft torque no less!!

Anyway here is what he says: "My name is Andy Entwistle from Hiflowheads, we spoke regarding me using your valves on one of our modified inlet manifolds for the 2.8 & 2.9 VR6 engines. The valves have worked to their expectation and have given further improvement in low down torque over our modified manifold.

Our Demo car, 1993 Mk3 2.8 Golf now pulls as hard from 2700rpm as it used to do at 3500rpm. It is our aim to market two types of manifolds, a Type 'S' & a Type 'R'. The type S is just a modified manifold and the type R is the modified manifold with the Ecotek valves fitted to further enhance torque. With the Type 'R' manifold fitted, our Golf is now producing 211Bhp & 195lbft torque, the car will simply haul itself uphill in 5th gear at 900rpm without any reluctance, the difference over a standard Golf VR6 is staggering. In my view the valves have put the icing on the cake.

I have enclosed a picture of the completed installation. The second valve is fitted under the HT lead runner , just to the right of the oil filler cap. I hope this will be of some help."

The Ecotek CB-26P works brilliantly on all GTi models and has been thoroughly reviewed in Rabbit - the Club GTi Magazine (see the GTi Reviews Page) where a member said: "It was quite unreal just how much difference this thing actually made!"

On these pages we will show you engines with the device fitted and on the Fitting GTi's page we show you pictures of Vince Saiya of Stealth Racing fitting a CB-26P to his own personal car - yes really!

Here for example is a GTi 20v Turbo above and a modified GTi 16v below with the Ecotek fitted - you can see that it is a relatively simple job.

The Ecotek CB-26P improves low end response, gives smoother running, reduces emissions and, if you don't spend all your time thrashing it, improves petrol consumption. Chris Richardson reckons his 8v runs nearly as well as a 16v at the top end (ask him on: chris@dubolox.com ).

But there's more - according to tests by VW Motoring magazine there's an added 2 bhp. Their rolling road test is reproduced on our Review page - click here to see the full test  "...friskier and much smoother on the throttle...consistently around 1 to 2 bhp more..."  was what they said in May 2000 - Volkswagen Driver magazine tested the device in September 2000 and said "I would recommend this device to anyone; economies are made from the first turn of the key, and extra power is there if you need it."

Another big bonus is for modified engines, especially those with fancy cams - the Ecotek CB-26P irons out flat spots and reduces hydrocarbon emissions so you can get through the MoT!

vr6-ecotek-2.jpg (81729 bytes)Here is another VR6, this time a Corrado specially modified by Stealth Racing. The inlet manifold needs to be modified to take an additional Ecotek unit at the other end from the servo hose outlet to balance the manifold turbulence.

This car belongs to John Moore and is 'dual fuel' (i.e. it also runs on Liquid Petroleum Gas) and he confirms that the Ecoteks' give smoother and more responsive low end performance as well as better economy at cruising speeds and considerably better emissions. What is more, of course, they work fine with the LPG.

Further trials have indicated that one device works almost as well as the two used in the above modification. Accordingly, only one device need be fitted to the servo connection to the manifold (as per the one on the right in the picture above) on all VW and Audi VR6 engines, given that tests have shown this is 90% as effective as two but is considerably more practical.

If you want to see an Ecotek being fitted by Vince Saiya of Stealth Racing to his personal GTi Turbo go to the Fitting GTi's page or click here.
