In May 2002 Dr Phil Anwyl contacted
us about his Land Rover Discovery 2.0MPi
- Here is what he said:
"Here's some raw fuel figures:
Normal consumption (before Ecotek) = 21 - 22 mpg
Current consumption (after Ecotek) = 24 - 25 mpg
This appears to represent a minimum improvement of approx 9% and a maximum
improvement of approx 19.5% giving an average improvement of 14.25%. Although I
am not certain of the actual Discovery Fuel tank capacity, I can only ever fit
65 litres +/- 0.5 in it which equates to approx 15 gallons. The current saving,
based on an average improvement of 14.25%, would appear to be 2 gallons per tank
full, give or take a tiny bit.
Now
that doesn't appear to be particularly earth-shattering but it represents around
an extra 48 - 50 miles of motoring which if you're in the middle of nowhere
could mean the difference between getting home - or not! Or if you prefer to
look at in monetary terms, £7.00 stays in your pocket each time you fill up. Now
that represents a few beers when you get home at the end of a long hard day!
As far as fitting instructions are
concerned - try this .....
1. Completely detach the servo to manifold hose.
2. Remove the OEM NRV from the manifold.
3. Place NRV in a vice and carefully drill out the centre. (This is made from
plastic
so drilling out is easy). You should now be able to blow through the NRV in
both directions easily.
4. Replace NRV into manifold and attach a short stub (approx 3") of fuel pipe to
it,
using a Jubilee type clip.
5. Fit one side of the Ecotek Valve into the pipe stub, securing with a Jubilee
type clip.
6. To the opposite side of the Ecotek Valve, fit a further stub (approx 3") of
fuel pipe,
securing it to the valve with a Jubilee type clip.
7. Into the end of the pipe stub, fit a Ford type, in-line NRV (ensuring this is
the right
way round!!) and secure with a Jubilee type clip.
8. Finally, fit a further section of fuel pipe (approx 12" - 14") between the
in-line NRV
and servo outlet, securing at both ends with Jubilee type clips.
You should now be ready to warm your engine up and tune the Ecotek Valve
in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. After you have tuned the
valve, finish the job off by fitting the natty little Pipercross
Filter/Silencer. Enjoy the savings!"

Bennett emailed us in November 2001:
"Well,
I fitted your Ecotek to my Jeep
last week. Frankly, I didn't expect much from it - after all , if it's so
cheap, how much use can it be? I grew up in the '80s. You can tell,
can't you?
And I was totally wrong. It's fantastic. My Jeep is now much more tractable and
much nicer to drive. It's more willing - it's still not moving at warp speed,
but it's less fussed, especially around town and there's much better pick-up on
the open road. The noise is negligible - but it's a Jeep anyway, so you get used
to the Normandy invasion soundtrack.
Fuel economy seems better in that you can't actually see the fuel gauge moving
now. One interesting thing is that the Jeep will now pull from around 1600 rpm
without vibrating and objecting, instead of 2000 rpm minimum. Something used to
rattle like crazy before and there was a lot of "too much for the lower gear,
not enough poke for the higher one" feeling, which has now gone.
So brilliant product. Cheap, quick to fit and not only does it work but it
works instantly. If only you sold decent seats as well!
These
are pictures of the Ecotek device fitted, it's a
2.5 1997 Wrangler Jeep.
It's not big and it's easy to fit. - there's bags of room under a Jeep bonnet
anyway. I thought that with twin fuel injectors as standard the device would be
too far away from the manifold to do much, but the vehicle is much more pleasant
to drive and will pull from about 500 rpm lower now.
I know that a fuel device
that raises the gearing is probably a function of not getting enough sleep, but
the Jeep pulls much more willingly than before.

Andy contacted us in April 2002 and said:
"I have recently fitted a CB-26P
Ecotek valve to my 1986 Land Rover 90 2.5L
which was returning about 15mpg. The Ecotek valve has now been in use for 2
tanks worth of fuel and is now returning around 20mpg, that’s 33%, yes 33% fuel
saving!!
On
my average weekly mileage its saving me nearly £9 per week. I couldn't be
happier and am recommending the valve to all my friends, relatives and work
colleagues. The engine is smoother running, picks up better at speed and seems
to warm up quicker on cold mornings but never get hotter than before the valve
was fitted. As I clock up more miles I will keep you updated as to my economy
figures.

at a sensible price."
He then came back with more info
saying:
"Please find
attached photos of the installation of the CB-26P valve to my 1986 2.5L Land
Rover 90 engine. The valve was installed at the end of the metal part of the
brake servo vacuum pipe (after reducing its length to about 5 inches) coming off
the inlet manifold. The whole installation took less than 10 minutes. I warmed
the engine up and set the valve as per the instructions, dead easy.
Although
there have been comments about the engine idle possibly becoming lumpy, I never
noticed this. Anyway I took the Landy straight out for a run. Now bearing in
mind that its an old engine, and doesn’t have an abundance of power, straight
away it pulled better at speed and the hesitation it used to suffer from when
pulling away was almost eliminated. The best way I can think to describe to
change in the engine is 'it feels cleaner to drive'.
The best part came when I went to fill the Landy up with
petrol. Prior to fitting the valve the lump under the bonnet was just managing
15mpg, but after 2 tanks full of petrol with the valve installed the lump now
returns just over 20mpg !!!! Thats 33% fuel saving. I was staggered and redid
the calculations. I can only say 'Well done Ecotek' for a product that not only
works, but works very well and doesn't break the bank.
In five weeks of driving my average mileage, the valve
will have paid for itself and I will be saving around £9 a week just on my trips
to work and back. Once again well done and thank you."
