Focuscb26p.jpg (565332 bytes)This Ford Focus 1.8 Zetec belongs to Dr Nigel Overton and was was fitted by Ritchies Auto's in Birmingham. His initial findings indicate improvements in responsiveness and smoothness through the gears. Nigel has so far only tested the mpg on short stop/start runs and is getting between 5-10% improvement - he will report back in due course when he has some motorway figures. You can see the device in the top right hand corner (by the white brake fluid reservoir).

Remember, for an expanded view of any of the pictures on this site simply click on the picture and then click the 'Back' button on your browser to return to this page. As opposed to the Puma (see 'More Cars 3') where the servo line had to be sleeved over; here the line apparently fits the device without modification - just a couple of jubilee clips are required. Fords are generally not the easiest cars to fit with the Ecotek CB-26P so if you are in any doubt be sure to have your car checked by one of our Suppliers. Click here for the Suppliers Page.

This Mazda MX5 belongs to 'Scary' at Fast Car and his colleague Steve Silk did a review on his 205 (see More Cars 2). This Mazda is fitted with a prototype filter which - due to demand from Golf GTi owners (who seem to get a lot of induction noise from the device) and problems encountered when using the Ecotek on rally cars in Africa (where the sand and dust clog the device after a stage or two) - was developed in conjunction with Pipercross, who specialise in competition filters, exclusively for the Ecotek CB-26P.

Here is a
Mercedes 300 SL - the device works wonderfully well on the big Mercedes cars (as well as the 190's) and the performance improvements are quite dramatic.

This one belongs to Cyril Walters who recently retired as a member of the Independent Motor Factors Association and was formerly an Ecotek distributor - he sold out to Autella.... He reported improvements in low end grunt and throttle response as well as a healthy mpg improvement (11% on longer runs). Barclay did the fitting and reports no real snags other than the pipe is a bastard to cut and suggests a hacksaw! Also make sure you move the rubber protector along the pipe so it still stops the servo pipe rubbing in the cam cover.

As you will see two devices are fitted in series as the engine is a 3 Litre, remember to close both devices then tune the device furthest from the manifold first. The vacuum hose used by Mercedes is very tough and often it is best to use some new 10mm hose from the manifold end as well as using it to join the two devices as per this fitting.

95cally.jpg (72423 bytes)Here is a late '95 Calibra 16v Eco. The picture was provided by Jim who posted it on the excellent www.clubcalibra.com web site which features the Ecotek CB-26P - definitely worth a visit if you own a Cally. There has been very positive feedback from owners of the 8v Calibras. With the 16vthe owners tend to be pretty discerning: they say there is a noticeable improvement in response and smoothness though it is perhaps less dramatic given the 16v's much improved performance anyway. A 16v owner, Mickey, on the club-calibra site said: "It took me about 10 minutes to fit it, there was definite noticeable gains, including a nice little induction noise and better response in 2nd and 3rd gear. also it didn’t affect the top end as I got 131mph out of it today!! Ecotek is a winner". Certainly our tests and owner feedback show a better than 10% fuel saving with all Calibra models - (see Cavalier below - with the exception of the V6 which has not been tested) and the REVS 'Best Buy' Award (see the 'What you say' page) was given, amongst other things, as a result of tests on a Calibra which belonged to a mechanic who worked at the garage where the tests were done. He had modified and tuned his Cally but was getting flat spots and hesitancy which was cured by the CB-26P. He was, as the article confirms: "well happy".

There is some debate about this fitting however - Ryan reckons it ought to be done like this: "After searching through your website and finding the Calibra 2.0 16v Ecotec (exactly the same as the Cavalier engine) pictures I fitted the Ecotek device exactly as shown in your pictures of the Calibra.

This didn’t actually work as that only feeds into one cylinder. I can only presume therefore that the fitment is wrong on the Calibra. I have attached pictures of what I believe to be the correct fitment of the device. I have seen that other Cavalier owners have been having trouble with fitment and hope that my pictures will help them with this.

I eventually found the correct pipe for the Cavalier and the device is now fitted and working perfectly! I have not been able to check the fuel consumption yet but I hope to get back to you on that soon. So far the power difference and acceleration response is amazing! It has eliminated all the flat spots and makes a satisfying noise when accelerating. Many thanks for a fantastic product, good work. Kind regards, Ryan O'Mahony."

Many thanks Ryan - our technical team think yours is the correct fitting though it is difficult to tell from the Calibra picture that it isn't the same - anyway your pictures make it much clearer - we're much obliged!
