Max Power

"You’ve heard it before – a product that’s supposed to improve performance and fuel economy. Many companies have tried but only a handful have pulled it off. Ecotek are one of the successful few.

Their CB-26P is a simple yet effective add-on that can increase power and reduce your fuel bill. Based around F1 technology, the CB-26P causes air turbulence in the inlet manifold to increase combustion efficiency.

I tried one out on my Mk1 Golf. I fitted it to the brake servo’s breather pipe, approximately six inches from the inlet manifold. There was a noticeable improvement in throttle response – especially in the mid range. And the frequency of my petrol station visits had dropped radically.

I usually get about 100 miles for £15 of unleaded, but with my new best mate I’m averaging around 120 - 130 miles. And the best bit is that the faster you go, the greater the benefits reaped.

An inspired technological invention easily affordable for pocket money modifiers. "

MAX POWER - after being so positive about the CB-26P they were sceptical of the PowerBoost de-coke formula and gave the stuff a really thorough test - of course most of their cars are well thrashed so we weren't expecting the test to show anything too dramatic but nevertheless there was a very positive result - here's what they said in full:

"Power Boost is a de-coker, but claims additional engine benefits, including an increase in power. We tested it on Tom's Nissan Almera. It's clocked 50,000 commuting miles, guaranteeing plenty of carbon build-up.

Application is easy. Spray the contents into the air inlet over various stages, all of which are detailed on the can's reverse. Ecotek state PB does the following: 'cleans and de- cokes' means 'lower emissions' and 'improved economy'. It did all three.

Hydrocarbons went from 32 to 0, carbon dioxide dropped from 15.4 to 14.6, while carbon monoxide stayed at a low 0.01. As a result, another claim 'throttle response' was m improved, as was 'smoother running'. That left 'more engine power' and 'better acceleration'.

Power was boosted by 1 bhp from idle up to 3900rpm, as was torque, going up 1.5lb/ft between idle and 4000rpm. But after this midrange point the final figures were 90.5bhp (0.2bhp down on before) and 89.4lb/ft (0.1 up).

So yes, in our tests Power Boost does live up to its claims. Naturally, different cars will see different results, with older (more coked up) cars likely to see the biggest benefits. Just don't expect it to be an extra 30bhp in a can, 'cos there's not a product out there like that"  - Maxy P.
